In Quito, there are abandoned historical objects that remain inserted into the urban fabric, generating fractionation and disarticulation. These are shown as abandoned islands in the sea of urbanization.
This is the case of the Chimbacalle Railway Station (C.R.S.) and Molinos Royal, where the aim is to recover the abandoned heritage complex from its morphological and architectural conditions to transform it into a complement to education focused on art, culture, sports, relationships, social and personal growth, which creates atmospheres of critical thinking and generates permanence and neighborhood life. This is how, from the seven pre-existing buildings, six new interventions emerge that complement the pre-existing ones, completing the archipelago and forming new relationships between volumes. The aim is to create a place that articulates and invites encounters. Where people have the freedom to discover the project without an established route. A contrast of temporality is sought so that the language or technique of pre-existence is not replicated; However, materiality articulates each space both outside and inside.
The project highlights those buildings that have become obsolete under consumerist eyes of people, demonstrating that, more than a problem, they are an opportunity.
