The proposal emerged from an international Design–Build collaboration between five universities from Ecuador, Chile, and Germany, conducted between January 2022 and June 2023. The project aimed to familiarize architecture students with the full process of a project, from conceptualization to construction, within an academic framework.
The assignment involved designing a learning space focused on environmental sciences for rural high school students in Ibarra, Ecuador. The remote design process unfolded in four stages, progressing from independent exploratory proposals to mixed international teams, the selection of three schemes, and the collective development of a final proposal. Construction followed, resulting in a flexible, open-plan structure adaptable to multiple uses, incorporating service spaces and a viewing tower.
The final details were completed in February 2024. Since then, the pavilion has operated as a place that fosters and promotes knowledge.
